The Return Of The Lens

on December 08, 2022
So much of the last two years has been spent mourning the dearth of stock that it comes as a bit of a shock to discover that there are full shelves of lenses at Stirling Street. No greater joy than looking at a line of the new Nikon Z series and wondering if it is time to break out the credit card and put some new glass on the front of the mirror-less. You have been frugal for as long as you have had to - now is the opportunity to see if the decision to go to the newer body was justified ( It was... ). If you've been using the kit zoom up to now, try a nifty fifty. The opportunity to do street shooting and low-light work is all the better with the advance of summer nights*. You revelled in the 50mm when you were shooting a DSLR - you can do the same with your new Z-series camera. The resolution of a good standard lens is very difficult to beat. Wide? Well, you can go wide without having to go off the chart when you're working with a full-frame 24 x 36 sensor. The classic 28mm or 24mm may be all you ever need for interior and group shots. If you are travelling - and you can travel now - the 35mm makes a good one-lens outfit with your Z6 or Z7. Working? Well, consider a short zoom. You cannot tell when you need to see more, or less, or closer. A step to a Z -series lens will eliminate the adapter and let you work faster while you look better.
