I always like to go to the Fujifilm equipment shows when Warrewyk Williams is in town. He's the national training manager for Fujifilm Australia and every single time he's presented a new product he's had something surprising to say about the cameras. He fills in the gaps in knowledge that even Fuji Rumours leaves open. Of course some information is not released too far ahead of time - and for good reason. There are stumbling blocks to any manufacturing and marketing exercise and making much of something that never eventuates is damaging to a firm's reputation. No names, no pack drill...

So good to see you here - out on this limb, so far above the ground. Nice to have company. Don't jiggle, people. It's not that strong a limb. I've asked you all here to discuss the business of names in the photo trade - or more specifically, brand names. You may all be a little surprised to learn that each one of you has a brand name. You might not have it printed on the outside of your package or plastered on the back of a bus, but it is there for people to see nevertheless. And this applies to you whether you are making pictures for money, love, or to crush your enemies and drive them before you. The outright professional workers who run a business and sell a product have long recognised this. The smart ones make sure that everyone in town recognises them. They pay out a great deal of money to appear on the backs of buses and in as many publications as they can. Aside from the law court reports, nearly any publication is good news. They...

Recipe for a good night out as cooked up by Camera Electronic. Perfect for a winter night. Ingredients: Talented people. Good food. Excellent drinks. Cozy urban atmosphere. Interesting art. Short speeches. Last night saw the Camera Electronic directors and family, together with a goodly selection of Perth's fashion professionals, crowd into Rockefellers on Beaufort Street for just such an event. Rockefellers seems to be a combo of a deli and a bar and in both divisions, Michael, the proprietor, served his visitors very well. If you go there, try the reuben sandwiches and the dill pickles. Suberb. The occasion marked the opening of Clique - an exhibition of WA Fashion Through The Lens. It is all a part of the Telstra Perth Fashion Festival. The art featured was the fashion work of three Western Australian favourites; Christian Blanchard, Stefan Gosatti, and Simon Lekias. Their editorial and catwalk work is, as you can imagine, at the top of the professional tree. But one thing that photo-fans sometimes don't realise - we see most of what they do through printed magazines or phosphor screens, and thesemay sometimes make for visual compromises -...

Two good bits of economic news from Epson - makers of fine inkjet printers, inks, and media.1. The cash back offer to purchasers of Epson Stylus Pro SP-4900 printers has been extended. From the 15th of September to the 31st of October 2015 you can receive a $ 500 cash back from Epson on these fine devices. Of course you have to buy it from a dealer - like us - between these two dates, but all you have to do is contact them online after you have your printer and let them sight your serial number and invoice. The 4900 is a very sophisticated A2 roll and sheet printer. It can produce all day, every day.2. You can also participate in the Epson cash back festival by purchasing one of the new Epson SureColor SC-P600 inkjet printers between the 15th of September and the 15th of November 2015. In this case you do the same proof of purchase to Epson and receive $ 300 cash back. The SC-600 would be ideal for the home printer and enthusiast. It can take roll...

Every so often Nikon Australia excels itself in imaginative promotion. And we love them for it. The news this morning from our representative concerns a promotion of the Nikon Df camera. The Df is a special model in the Nikon range that addresses the need for dedicated digital performance at the highest level in the lowest light while giving the user a camera that can be controlled with the same feel as the old film cameras. Retro is an "R" word but only in appearance. The insides are cutting edge technology. The Df is phenomenally sensitive to light and as it combines the processing power of the flagship model with the styling of the FM series, Nikon users feel instantly at home. It would be a delightful device to take for a photographic trip to, say...
