The Fuji X-Pro 1 is in-store right now. We have the camera bodies, the three lenses ( 18, 35, 60 Macro) and also the fitted leather cases and hand grips. The whole concern -  ready to go.I've got one in front of me on the editorial desk. It's fitted with the normal lens - the 35mm. I think it is the best starting point as a representation of the camera and what it will be for many photographers. Bear with me while I give a personalized view of it. Bear in mind this is a sales feature as well.It is a good size - my hand is medium and the grip round the right hand side is thick enough to give a good hold; my last finger is the only one not resting on the actual camera body. The lens on the other side gives a natural point of rest for the left hand - bear in mind that this is not one of those lenses that telescope out in several sections - it is a proper interchangeable lens with...

Well, we saw it.Samm Blake and the Fuji representatives - and Camera Electronic - put on a demonstration night at the Kulcha Multicultural Center in Fremantle on Monday of this week. It proved to be an excellent choice of venue - there was food and drink - and it was just the right size for the crowd that attended. Note: there was an additional exhibition of photographs mounted upon the center walls done by Alma Sarhan that was well worth examining. But back to the main event - Samm Blake is a wedding and event photographer from Melbourne who gets to work all over the world. She said she works with two big DSLR cameras during the weddings and admits that the weight and bulk of them can be daunting by the end of the event. Hear, hear, Ms. Blake - that is absolutely true. She has just had a chance to experiment with the Fuji X100 and the Fuji X-Pro1 cameras on these jobs - and to take a Fuji camera off to Japan on a business trip - and...

Well I spent my money and I took my chance –and it looks as though the bet paid off. Last week I bought a new Fuji X 10 – the little brother to the X 100 and the new XPro-1. It’s the one with the 28-105 zoom lens and the optical finder up on the northwest corner. I bought it as a tourist camera for an upcoming holiday. After an evening mastering the functions – code for reading the book and pushing the menu button – I tried it on indoor portraits – the fill flash coped with a self portrait against an overhead light, and it coped very well. It is as good a use of this lighting pattern as I could have achieved with my larger cameras and flashes, and it was a no-skill shot. Win. The next test was outside under shade – the car in the carport. Here the EXR mode that deals with an extended dynamic range did show a noticeable improvement over straight shooting, but I still found that the...

If I were a new Fuji X 10 compact camera, and I knew that I was about to be mobbed by a crowd of photographic enthusiasts – where would I hide?I’d hide at Camera Electronic, 230 Stirling Street, Perth – in the yellow cabinet in the center of the shop, down on the lower right side, where nobody would ever find me.Mind you, if they did find me they would buy me in an instant – it’s my cool retro look, my metal-body build quality, my 28-112mm equivalent lens, and my big LCD screen. They’d take me everywhere as I am small enough to fit in a pocket. They’d show me off to all their mates who are still using compact cameras that do not have optical finders – bit of jealousy there as I can take pictures in bright sunlight without whiting out in the glare.Don’t get me wrong – I love taking pictures on my SD card and I’m not afraid of rough treatment – I have a decent–sized hand grip and a real lens ring that they...
