Idle Curiosity Is Never Idle...

But it may indeed be curious...particularly if it is exercised by a photographic enthusiast. If you find yourself in the grip of it, sit right down here beside me... Every facet of photography has complexities. Pathways down which we travel - whether it is the simple options of the digital menu that we set ( And I can't believe I wrote " simple "...) or an entire career in photography that is unfolding. Sometimes the pathways come to short ends - when we lose interest or some item we are pursuing is abruptly removed from the market. Sometimes we build for years or decades on our own knowledge base - and then find that others depend upon us for it. But it's all curiosity to start with. And Camera Electronic wants to encourage that emotion at every opportunity. It expands the profession, the art, and the trade. It builds business - and it does so 24 hours a day unattended. We put out a number of channels of communication; the catalog, the online store, this column, shows, events, classes, etc. but the important part of them all is your mind. It works even when we are home in bed or building model airplanes, and it is driving you to wonder about lots of things that we can help with. There is a new camera out, and you'll be able to preorder it online, or wait until the first samples arrive in the shops for a hands-on inspection. Also a new lens that is coming soon. I can write this with confidence because the trade is always introducing just these items to you. All you need to do to have something interesting to think about or see is to be a little curious... Will it pay off for you? In the vast majority of cases, yes. You get curious, dive into the net, google about, spend a half hour looking at our catalogue, read the DPReview and Rockwell columns, watch the two guys from Calgary fooling around with the new gear, waste an hour on your favourite fan forum, and then pause. You've either exhausted all interest in the new thing or are planning to camp overnight in Stirling Street so that you can tear the shutters open tomorrow morning. And there you go. Something to get up for, something to start the corpuscles circulating, something to check the credit card balance for. And quite possibly a new decade of a new art form. Curious to try...?
