Backwoods, Hot Spots, And Tough Places

on July 14, 2019

You know all those places your Ma told you never to go - where she was sure you were going to get killed or worse? Well, Hugh Brown has been there already and broken his cameras in the process. Sometimes he broke them going in, and sometimes he broke them coming out, but they've always been interesting to look at afterwards.*

I know - we've seen what they looked like after he went poking around up in the Northwest - or down volcanoes - or into desperate mines. Cameras are delicate things but Hugh is not, and something generally has to give...

In the process of destroying the equipment he has come back with some beautiful and spectacular images and produced books that are compelling to see. He also has a fund of storeys and advice for others who may wish to explore the world with a camera. You could do far worse than sit and listen to his history because he is the real deal and the things he's seen and photographed are worth knowing.

You'll get a chance at Friday's Studio - 13 Old Aberdeen Street, West Perth on the 18th of July between 6:30 and 8:30 in the evening - he'll be regaling people with the tales of his travels with the camera as part of his Cruel Earth project. The other Camera Electronic advertising says that you will be inspired by the presentation. I just find that he is a lot of fun to listen to, and looking at his cameras is a sure cure for the fastidious equipment enthusiast who worries about dust spots inside a lens.

It's a free event, but do ring up the shop and give us an RSVP. It'll be a Q&A session after the presentation but don't say we didn't warn you.

* Ask him about the sulphur in the Canon camera after the volcano trip...
