The Blingpod

on March 31, 2019
You'll all remember the Three Legged Thing tripods and accessories that were popular a few years back - they had names that commemorated rock musicians together with wild colour combinations anodized onto their aluminium parts. Well, they're back and blingier than ever. The big tripod in today's shipment is the Leo with the airhead switch kit. It also bears the legend " Equinox Pro ". I am going to go out on a limb and imagine that the thing is named after Leo Sayer - I'm sure he'd be happy with being considered a pro, but I'm not so sure about the airhead bit. Make your own judgement... The tripod is a 5-section carbon fibre type with massive locking knuckles at each joint. They feature rubber inserts to give a firm grip as you open and close the locking - you could probably do it with wet or greasy hands. That's a plus point compared to some tripods that have fine milling or knurling and never seem to close tightly enough. The centre column is a two-part extendable type that allows for considerable adjustment without having to stop the procedure and break down the legs one by one. Good if you have got the thing planted and do not want to disrupt your set-up. Note the lever lock with a safety switch on the Arca-sized plate and the three metal loops to allow for lanyards to be secured. Not as easily seen is the bubble level. The ball lock and the pan lock are both smooth and free. Finally, the thing comes in a good case with adjustment tool and carabiner. You'll have no excuse to take it wherever your DSLR or mirror-less camera needs to go.
