Do you remember Photo Live in 2016? The one-day All-in Photographic trade show held at the Novotel Langley in July? Well, I do because it was a great deal of fun - albeit hard on the feet.      Well, soak your tootsies in preparation - it is coming again this year. The details are still being worked out but the date has been released - it'll be on SUNDAY, the 23rd of July.     Keep watching our PhotoliveExpo Website, In The Loupe and also the Camera Electronic weblog column and the Facebook page for further details.       It's not an expensive day out* and it's a great chance to get your photo vibes going on a slow Sunday! *Unless you decide to buy that new camera and lens...

There are good new things coming on the drone scene here in Perth. Here's a roundup of some of the highlights: The DJI advice to owners of their products regarding registration and updating of the control programs has already been given in the regular Camera Electronic weblog column and in the Facebook page. But drone flyers who may have missed it would be wise to go to see the DJI website and look over the notice. They'll find that they need to re-register in some cases to restore the full functionality of their DJI drone. DJI will be coming out with new models of the Mavic soon. We'll keep you posted as this occurs. Always a good idea to subscribe to the CE newsletter, emails, and Facebook page...

Of all the places in the world Africa is like a magnet for me, Kenya, Rwanda and Zanzibar are my favourite destinations. Africa has so much to offer the photographer, right from when your flight lands at Nairobi you are transported into another world, the women in their brightly coloured garments, the hustle as crowds move through immigration until you finally spill out onto the mayhem of the streets. Kenya in particular dominated by savannas offers enchanting landscapes and a refuge for the big five (lion, leopard, cape buffalo, elephant and rhinoceros) and with 1,500 species of birds is a Mecca for ornithologists. On my visits to Kenya I have tended to move away from the more traditional and commercial circuits and explore the mountainous Samburu National Reserve and move through the Great Rift Valley discovering the Lakes Nakuru (famous for it’s Pink Flamingo flocks), Bogoria and Baringo on the way to the gem of Kenya the Masai Mara National Reserve. A safari in the Mara is not to be missed, qualified guides will get you up close and personal to the wildlife....

Well I don’t know if Fujifilm X-series enthusiasts will be happy with the results from the Lawrence Liverwurst laboratories or not. For some it will mean that they need to buy a new lens and for some others it will mean that they need NOT buy a new one. To be frank, I LIKE buying new lenses and I recommend the practice to everyone I meet. Nevertheless, science is a hard mistress… Okay. The test with the modelling light on. The green rectangle is where the AF point rests. All three lenses were started up from infinity and fired when they finally found focus. The trials were repeated three times to give each lens a chance to do its best. a. The 18-135mm zoom. This is a general purpose lens that can do many things well, though it necessarily has a limited maximum aperture. When it was triggered it ran in and out for two cycles in one second and then fired. That's the feature image above. b. The 60mm f:2.4 lens is a sort of nearly-macro lens that is designed to do...

De plane of focus, Boss. It's right here on my new Canon EOS M6 mirror-less camera! And my new EOS M6 has a whole lot of features that the Canon DSLR cameras have: 24.2 megapixel CMOS sensor with DIGIC 7 processor. Dual pixel technology. Combined image stablisation. 5 Axis. WiFi, NFC, and Bluetooth connectivity. 100-25,600 ISO. And it can do even better things: 180º touch screen for selfies and v-logging. Built-in time lapse capability. 7 fps multi shot. It's the mirrorless camera for easy carrying and big projects. And you don't have to live on a fantasy island to own it - it is here right now with a range of Canon EOS mirror-less lenses. It's the best big camera in a small package that Canon have ever made. I want all the lenses, Boss! Click here to find out more about the Canon EOS M6...

I've been asked to write a small piece about a Camera Electronic contest that has been and gone - the offer of two tickets to see the West Coast Eagles play the Western Bulldogs on Friday, 12th of may. I hope the winner, Benjamin Travia, went a long with a mate and had a very good time. The point to take from this is that Camera Electronic does occasionally have a chance to put up a very quick contest for our clients - good things come to us and we can pass them on to you - but you must be alert to see the offer and fast to get your entry in. It is always worth while looking at our Facebook page and our main site each day. Sometimes the things you see are free contests - sometimes they are quick flash sales offers. Sometimes alerts about industry matters like the DJI drone registration changes. Sometimes a notification about a new product that will be in very short supply for a very long time...

If you have a story to tell, and want to do it in professional style, the Camera Electronic Rental Department is your friend. So is a pot of coffee and a big pad of yellow paper, but they won't make your video look good - CE and Canon will. The rental Department has a new body to offer you - the Canon C100 Mark II video camera. It is the latest in a line of wholly professional HD video cameras that have gone to weddings, industrial sites, sports events, and advertising shoots all over Western Australia in the past few years. The camera body is not all that big - forget the giant video cameras of the 80's and 90's - and is well suited to modest tripod and head support. You may desire a giant Hollywood crane and dolly system, and good on you if the budget stretches to that, but using the Canon C100 Mark II you can get by with smaller gear. You'll still get the benefits of using the Canon EF mount for the lens and can record in...

Some fetes are worse than death - and some festivals bigger than life. The Vivid Sydney festival that is just starting and will run in some form until the middle of June looks as if it is on the good side of the ledger. Two Western Australian photographers will discover just how good it is going to be as they will be going there as guests of Canon Australia and Camera Electronic. Bebette Fekete and Mandy Liu will be going to experience the sights and sounds of the event, and we hope that they bring us back some amazing photography. Not being familiar with what the Vivid Festival is, We googled their main site and were astounded to learn that it will have light shows, installations, and colour all over Sydney  - 97 events in all. Central Sydney, Newtown , and Chatswood seem to have multiple events, and I'll bet the harbour is ablaze - safely. That's not all  - the festival lists 239 musical events during that period of time. Even more intriguing is a section called " ideas" - seminars, lectures,...
